Alison Bournes

Ceramicist Alison Bournes work focuses on the human condition of life, love, loss and death.

Since 2010, after leaving work in the Mental Health services, Alison has developed her own education in ceramics, glass and printmaking and continues to advance her work through Adult Education and regularly exhibiting in Essex, Kent and London. In 2018 she produced 300 pairs of miniature ceramic shoes for the exhibition ‘The London Shipwreck: a Sunken Story’ held at the Southend Museum to commemorate the souls of those seamen who lost their lives when the warship ‘London’ sank in the Thames estuary in 1665. The following year Alison was invited to join the Thames Group of Artists and produced ceramic boots to commemorate the late, great Ian Dury, which were part of the touring exhibition ‘All Kinds of Naughty’ which included works by Dury himself, as well as pieces inspired by his life and music.

Her work is held in the collections of Historic England and Southend Museums.
