Cathy Burke

Catherine recently moved to Canterbury with her family as her elder son started at The King’s School as a music scholar.

She painted prolifically during lockdown, having rediscovered a passion for painting and the interplay of music and colour.

Catherine was formerly an opera singer, musical theatre performer and actor and has worked behind the camera for the BBC and independent TV production companies.  Recently she secured an agent and returned to the business after a long absence raising her two sons, one a current and one a former chorister at Westminster Abbey.

A love of colour and a feeling of freedom while painting in acrylics have given her a channel to express herself and address some of the struggles in her personal life

Music plays a vital part in Catherine’s paintings, always being struck by the effect that colour has on our senses and the way paintings can affect us just as deeply as a melody, harmony or counterpoint in music.

Catherine’s work is inspired by what captures her imagination, she reflects an overriding belief that colour can make you happy.  Her painting has developed a spontaneous, energetic style.  Most of her art is created alla prima, in one wave.

Since moving to Canterbury in 2024, Catherine founded Country Manor Concerts. A concert series devoted to excellence in music, bringing music into the exquisite historical buildings of Kent.  CMC strives for the highest quality in the programming & performances, providing opportunities for all in a truly boutique concert experience.
