Jane Price

Jane Price’s predominantly creates landscapes, of which many are set around water, be that marshes, estuaries, or lakes.  “My challenge is to evoke a mood and atmosphere redolent of the light and moisture that hangs in the air around such natural bodies of water.

At first glance, I want the viewer to recognise as much of the subject as is necessary to draw them in to look more deeply, hopefully, to perceive and experience the mood I have tried to capture.  As a consequence, I do not intend my style to be in any way precious, or a traditional landscape representation”.

Jane works with pastels, acrylics, and graphite pencil on 850gsm handmade watercolour paper, generally to a scale of 56cm x 76cm.  The thickness of the paper is important as it affords her the opportunity to layer and scratch away the paper to get the effect she is after.

Following a Foundation year at East Warwickshire College, Jane studied for a degree in Furniture & Product Design at Kingston University. For fifteen years, she worked as a product designer with a London-based design company, specialising in colour, materials and finishes on a variety of furniture and product briefs ranging from Herman Miller to Parker Pens and Kodak.

In 2004, she became a full-time artist, working from Great Western Studios in London before establishing her own in studio Chiswick in 2007.

In 2010, she was shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize, and in 2014 was selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. Since 2015, she has worked on numerous private commissions and has been showcasing her work as part of Artists at Home in Chiswick since 2008.
