Jo Baker
In her youth, Jo Baker studied dance and loved designing and creating clothing with her mother, a dressmaker. Jo later became a model and dance teacher. Following an illness in 2017, she revisited her love of art and design, studying various forms and igniting a life-changing spark.
Having discovered a unique way to reinvent an ancient reverse painting technique - ‘Verre Églomisé’ - Jo began to paint fish, initially as an homage to her late father, a keen fisherman. A singular ‘feisty fish’ pushing against the current began to emerge in each piece and Jo soon realised she was telling her own story of struggle . Resonating with so many people, Jo’s lone fish has become a symbol of self-belief, courage, and positivity. For Jo, now in good health and proud of her battle scars, it is a way to celebrate her own inner strength and self-determination.
