Karen Keogh
Karen Keogh was born in London and has spent her whole life there. She studied art at Roehampton University and was an art teacher for some years before launching her career as a printmaker in the 1980s.
Keogh is known for her colourful three-plate, limited edition etchings. They are landscape-based, inspired by the places she has visited. Having travelled widely, her work features images from many countries; however, London remains a constant inspiration.
Etching is a time-consuming process which requires much patience and technical knowledge. The use of three plates can result in a vibrant range of colours, producing images with a high level of depth and texture. Each piece is hand-printed and therefore never identical. This means there is always an element of surprise and risk involved. For Karen, it is this chance component that makes the technique so exciting and keeps her “hooked”.
Keogh was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (RE) in 2007.
Her work has been exhibited widely, and frequently at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition. It is held in a number of public collections, including the Ashmolean Museum, the University of Aberystwyth Print Collection, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Parliamentary Art Collection.
