Komar

Komar enjoys working outside of the bounds of any one style or genre, preferring instead to incorporate what he describes as a mush-up. With nods to avant-garde, pop, and expressionism, with a touch of the macabre thrown in - the resulting works have a cartoonish grotesqueness about them.

The artist’s most recent series delves into the complexities of the self, often through our relationships with others, each exploring a particular state of mind. His artistic practice is one of reflection; some of which centres on his own experiences from his time spent living in France, others on universal experiences. You could say the theme is mental health, but Komar leans towards the notion of mental states as a more faithful characterisation. Although largely autobiographical in nature, his works invoke some of the darker feelings we have all had at one time or another - baring the soul and revealing difficult emotions.

Komar is a pseudonym the artist uses, a Polish nickname that stuck – translated to English it literally means mosquito.

Komar recently showed at the New Artist Fair, at the Truman Brewery, and will be at the Parallax Art Fair in 2025. He has exhibited with several galleries in London, as well as Leigh-on-Sea, and now here at Lilford Gallery.
