Norma Fryer
Norma Fryer moved to Whitstable as a child and attended Canterbury Art College before moving to London to start her career as a graphic designer, painter, and potter. Her career as an artist really took off when she returned to Whitstable in the mid-70s, where she became a well-known and much-beloved figure in the community.
Whitstable - especially the sea, harbour, and beach huts - was a constant source of inspiration for Norma; the town held a place deep in her heart.
Norma was heavily involved with the openings of many Oyster festivals over the years and was instrumental in starting the Fishslab Gallery, being their first volunteer. This gallery continues to thrive. Artwork by the artist is found on many tourist information boards around the seaside town and has adorned the homes of many locals and visitors over the years.
Norma sadly passed away in 2024.
