Huddie Hamper is a rapidly rising star in the art world with his colourful and expressive paintings. An artist and musician hailing from Medway, he graduated with his BFA from Slade School of Fine Art in 2021 where he developed his unique and distinctive style of painting with thick, wavy brushstrokes that imitate movement. He has been prolific in his works ever since, featuring subjects such as humans, horses, and flowers. His paintings channel the work of his artistic inspirations such as Gustav Klimt, Edvard Munch, Vincent Van Gogh, Thèodore Gèricault, and Eugène Delacroix.
Huddie Hamper is primarily concerned with the relationship between his eyes and his hands; he is an exceedingly conscientious painter. To see the world around him purely as shapes, and not as shapes signifying symbols, is a task he gallantly accepts. ‘Too little of the world is seen otherwise’, he argues; a face is never just two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Assessing and ultimately accepting the world formally, Hamper paints intuitively. As one hopes and strives to balance the many facets of life, Hamper hopes and strives to balance the many facets of his paintings.
We are very excited to welcome Huddie Hamper back to Lilford Gallery for a solo show this August.
