Tommy Gurr

Tommy Gurr is a visual artist from Whitstable, Kent. After attending Kent Institute of Art and Design (KIAD) and the University for Creative Arts (UCA), Tommy combined his passion for art with his second great love, travelling, which has taken him across the globe. His stencil murals can be found from Camden to Cambodia, where he featured as an Artist in Residence for much of 2015 and 2016, producing over 60 murals.

Influenced by Contemporary and Urban Art, by utilising contrast and imagination Tommy continues to surprise, combining his influences and media to create striking new original pieces and bringing his love of unusual canvas to the gallery environment.

Whilst completing a 4500km unsupported cycle ride from Perth to Sydney in 2017, raising funds and awareness for mental health charity, Mind, Tommy began to collect a wide selection of disused and abandoned signs that he found along the roadside. Eighteen months after the trip, Tommy returned to the UK to present his latest work incorporating many of the signs he personally salvaged in one-off pieces, in a solo exhibition, ‘Sign Language,’ at Graffik Gallery, London.
