Adam De Ville

Adam De Ville is a self-taught artist originally from Burntwood. He now resides in Canterbury, a big inspiration for his artworks. In his works inspired by Canterbury Adam uses a brightly coloured palette. Whatever the location of interest is for Adam, he aims to capture the character of the cities and landscapes he portrays in his work. Canterbury is especially significant for him due to its architecture, history, and people, all of which add to the texture of the city. Adam’s paintings contribute to the layers of Canterbury’s historical importance while at the same time he aims to tackle the city in a different light.

Painting allows Adam to form a picture of how his subjects move him – when approaching his work, he always asks of himself how it makes him feel, and as an extension to this he throws back the same question to anyone viewing his work. He is not limited to the visual subject only, there is a strong element of storytelling as he lets his heart form the picture. Adam is never afraid of a blank canvas, he has a long list of subjects he would like to paint, in fact he often feels that he does not have enough time to capture everything he wishes to paint. His aim is to paint his personality through his artworks and capture the moment or the place in time.

Lilford Gallery was one of the first places to exhibit Adam’s work. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently with Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (award winner) Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (award winner), Wales Contemporary (award winner) ING Discerning Eye, and Royal Cambrian Academy of Art (award winner) as well as galleries in London, Dublin, and Paris.
