Whanopus is a melange between the famous Short Brothers Clipper Class Flying Boats of the romantic era of air travel and a graceful whale with hints of a big bird. The first plane off the production line was called Canopus, with each following it being named beginning with a ‘C’, and Canopus mixed with a whale gives ‘Whanopus’! Originally created as a metal armature sketch with ultra hard marble plaster modelled on and then carved back to suit the form and lines, with this edition having been molded and then cast in Bronze resin. She exhibits the scars of life and experience in the depths of the sea and the heights of heaven. Part of the AERORGANIC series, this mix between machin and organism reflects a different time and place which may be more graceful and serene than our present.
