Born in London in 1963, Jonathan was raised predominantly in Canvey Island, Essex, as well as travelling the world with his father, for his work. Jonathan started painting and drawing from an early age, and missed the end of his schooling so that he could pursue a career as an artist. During his early 20s, however, he worked as a builder until he could rely on the income from his art and could devote more time to his real work.
We have exhibited Jonathan’s work for 20 year during which we have had several shows and events that feature his paintings so we are thrilled to welcome him for another solo exhibition at the gallery.
Jonathan says: “I paint mostly in oils. My style has been described as ‘Romantic Realism’. I’m happy with that. My paintings are often an attempt to paint a memory. Whether rough sleeping in the city, or in better times on the coast, I’ve always painted with emotion. My pictures are often lonely. When there’re people, I sometimes like to be one of them. Others may be people I once knew.”
